For this modestly-scaled yet architecturally-significant house in Venice, California, we sought to breathe entirely new life into this longstanding property owned by a retired couple with a passion for collecting photography. The scope included replacing the once-dark cabinetry in the kitchen with rift white oak panels; swapping the existing black granite countertop for a reflective white Caesarstone that drew infinitely more light into the double-height kitchen; introducing a glowing Bocci pendant (the husband’s favorite feature) into the bathroom; wrapping the existing tub in new marble to give it new life and introducing a new teak floor to the bathroom; replacing narrow-plank yellow bamboo with a textured European wide plank white oak; and elevating the furnishings throughout, introducing objects like Fritz Hansen stools, a De La Espada bed, and B&B Italia leather chairs.
By making considered interventions we were able to deliver our clients what felt like a new home, with the budget of a renovation.
